Congratulations to our 2010 Club Champion - Johnny Hayes.
We had a very close club championship this year in the Championship Flight and the First Flight. Johnny Hayes won by only 2 shots over Jimmy Hayes (they are not related). Both these guys played very good for the 3 days especially playing in this kind of heat. Talking about heat. Thats whats going to be stirred up at the next Sledge family reunion as Frank Sledge (father) beat Ben Sledge (son) to win the First Flight of the club championship. These two battled all day and the margin of winning was one stroke. Congratulations Frank.
See you next year for the 2011 Men's Club Championship.

The British Open or otherwise known as The Open is this week and I think Lee Westwood should be a heavy favorite. The old course at St. Andrews should be a fun test for the pro's however don't look for them to go too low like they are this week at the John Deere Classic. Check back to our website soon as I have almost completed a 10 tip series you can view on the website for free. Who knows maybe one fo these tips will take your game to the next level or at least help you reduce your score by 5 to 10 shots.
See you at Timberline. ps. The greens are rolling great today.

Yes its true, we just aerified the greens today. It was very successfull. We used a very small hole and have topped dressed them with sand to make them more smooth. The greens are very playable immediately after the aerification and will be back in excellent condition in a couple of weeks. Don't let the aerification slow you down. Between now and June 20th we are offering the following rates because the greens aren't PERFECT like they usually are: Monday-Thursday $40.00, Friday-Sunday $50.00. Hopefully we will see you at Timberline Very Soon.
Thanks for your patronage.

Congratulations to Phil Mickelson from Timberline Golf Club.
Phil the Thrill is his new name. Mickelson has always been a go for it kind of guy. When everyone else is wanting to finish second or third to make a pay check Phil could care less, he wants to win so he will go for it every time. This mentality is a rare find this day and age. Mickelson lives on Birdies. He probably has more birdies and bogeys on his scorecard everyone round than he does pars. If Johnny Miller was broadcasting the Masters he would have had a hear attack. You know Johnny is Mr. Layup. Yes Phil has made some bad shots in the past to lose a few majors but all it was was poor execution. If he changed his mentality he would not be a very good player and most likely would not win any tournaments. I am vowing this year to make more birdies and go for it more often. Then lets see who wins.
Thanks for the Thril Phil.

The second round of the 2010 Masters is over and Tiger Woods is close to the top of the leader board. Whenever Tiger is in this position at Augusta he comes out with the win. This is going to be interesting. Everything this week revolves around The Masters. At Timberline we are having a Masters Mega Shirt Sale where we have closeout prices on shirts from Ashworth, Addidas, Cutter & Buck, Nike, and Page & Tuttle and these shirts are $25 or $35 more than 50% OFF on most of these shirts and its just this weekend. If you need a new shirt come get one at Timberline. P.S. Most of them have the Timberline Logo which increases the value. Looking forward at Timberline to see 4-5 days of great weather. The course is in excellent condition and anyone traveling to Birmingham, Alabama better stop by and play or they are going to regret it. I mean these greens are rolling great. Don't stay home and watch the Masters create your own Masters out at Timberline. Come out and Tee It Up at Timberline.

This right here is what made me get int he golf business. MASTERS WEEK. Years ago when I was growing up in Iowa I cut out pictures of Augusta National and the Masters and taped them all around my dressor mirror. I looked at these pictures every day and dreamed of playing in the Masters Tournament. Fast forward 5 years and I found myself the day before my 21st birthday driving down Magnolia Lane about to play Augusta National.
This wasn't the week of the Masters so I obviously did not make it into the tournament. I was working at a private course near by called WestLake Country Club. The Head Golf Professional came outside to talk to me and said you have a time at Augusta National tomorrow at (i can't even remember what time) because I was on cloud nine. Just a few weeks earler we were sitting on #8 during the Masters watching Seve make an awesome up and down out of (a trash can) and all I could think about was playing that course. Earlier that day Coach Mike Ditka gave me a healthy cash tip for cleaning his clubs and said to enjoy the Masters that afternoon. I told Coach that that was not going to be a problem.
The day I played Augusta National it was a little different than it is now. The course did not have any rough and it was playing less than 7,000 yards. (Look what technology can do for the game now) I might tell you a few more things later but my claim to fame was on the first hole I was so nervous thinking about Bobby Jones, Jack Nichlaus, Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan and all the other great players who played in the Masters and played on this course. My knees were shaking and I hit the worst tee shot into the fairway bunker on the right of the fairway. I tried to hit an 8 iron out and caught the lip of the bunker and the ball rolled out to about 90 yards from the hole. I then proceeded to hit a sand wedge and holed it out for a birdie 3 on the first hole of Augusta National. I looked at my buddies in a daze, picked up the divot, and put it in my bag. Its hanging in my office today.
Enjoy Masters week.

Wow, what a day. 70 degrees and everyone wants to play. We only needed another 50 tee times available today at Timberline to accomodate everyone that wanted to play. You know what they say the early bird gets the worm. Golf in Birmingham is ripe for some good weather. Last week we had 9 inches of rain and this Friday we were 90 degree rule with the golf carts, Timberline drains pretty darn good ( we do have some work to do on #1). In my last blog I talked about John Daly's show "Being John Daly" starting and since I have seen 2 episodes and love it. John is just a down to earth guy with problems just like everyone else. One thing is He Doesn't give up. He keeps clawing back. Good Luck John, by the way Love the pants I need to get me a pair. So Tiger is coming back on tour at the Masters. What a great place to do this. The Members of Augusta National who run the tournament will make sure their are no problems out of the media. If you are mean to Tiger you will get thrown out. I sure hope he plays well. We need some good, no great golf on tour. Do I have to make a run on tour to give these guys some competition. Ha Ha. Gotta Go Practice.

Trying to figure out if Tiger is going to play in the Masters, Jack Nicklaus thinks he is but I have my reservations on the US Open. Sources say Tiger is finished with therapy and is already practicing and working out like his schedule used to be, the only thing diferent is that his wife Elin has been seen on the practice tee with him. I sure hope he can get through this and still have his A game. By the way what's up with John Daly? His new TV show is about to start on the golf channel, when I find out when you will be the first to know. As for this past weekends play on the PGA Tour I think these guys need to take a few risks, none of the guys who played safe won. Ah Ah Ah that tells me something, they don't care if they make 1million for 1st or 700k for second. Come On.

If you are looking for a Tee Time on Saturday, March 6th or Sunday, March 7th at Timberline Golf Club located just south of Birmingham, Alabama you better make it early. There is a member tournament at 8:00 am called the Ice Breaker Classic and then there are times available for public guests. Timberline has been in great shape for this time of year. The greens are rolling good and actually for the last few days we were 90 degrees with the golf cars. I am sure the rain on Tuesday will put us back on the path but with temps in the 60's its a no brainer to get out and play this Weekend. By the way when you come out you need to try the new Patty Melt Sandwich it is awesome.
See you at Timberline,
